How Much Power Does an Elder Have?

i keep seeing references to them and couldn't help but wonder.. how many elders does a kingdom hall have?

what is the extent of their powers and authority?

can they speak to someone who's been dfed?

Why did we all take the NWT at face value?

why didn't we ever care about checking whether or not the nwt was "the most reliable bible on the planet.

" such an audacious claim and it didn't spark much investigations.. (not saying no one did check it, just seems the vast majority never did, at least not for a long time).. so here we all were, with this unverified and propietary bible using it as the word of god to teach about the meaning of life?.

I never did. I used my 8 translations NT frequently in PT/SM/TMS and the NIV and NEB for OT references for over 20 years - that was until the edict - "thou shalt use NWT unless otherwise noted" letter and WT study came in an p**sed me off.

page 111 of the new elder's manual:.

making known a firm decision to be known no longer as one of jehovah's witnesses.. if the individual is agreeable, the committee should first try to speak with him and provide spiritual assistance.

It is a loaded statement for sure. I believe there is a typo. Should it not read: "the witness to this request..." Whose request is to be filed? the provoker? or the provoked? How can he witness his request if he does not make one? Why do they say the "witness" is this "Witness™" or "a witness?"

If one is simply not wanting to associate with the congregation, I sure as hell would not put that in writing. I would have had fun with this one at the next CO Suck Up Week if I was still an elder....

holy cow, i remember reading this catalog back in the early 80's, i never thought someone going out in service would need all this stuff !.

i was amazed at page #3,,,,,, making a magazine presentation .

"lay the magazine on top of the bible" (shows where the witness loyalty really is).. .

ks10-e NEWS Additional LTR notation:...PLEASE READ!!!!

evidently the 'boys' haven't gotten all their ducks in a row before printing the book!.

they have issued another boe ltr (will have late sunday or early monday) regarding wedding procedure and scriptural freedom to remarry!.

the ltr is dated oct 12, 2010 (so if anybody has a copy already post it or send it to me and i will post it).

Sorry to go slightly off topic:

Can you imagine an elders meeting after ks10-e is so widely distributed? Every one of them suspicous of the other thinking "Were you the one who leaked it?" This has to have an impact on them on a go forward basis.

Back to topic: waiting for the LTR.
